Case study
Monthly reporting moved out of manual Excel and into Vena, and now it flags when someone changes a closed period in NetSuite.
Essex Finishing's own team did most of the build, with MCC guiding. When the person who built it left right at go-live, MCC filled the gap, and reporting has run in Vena every month since March 2026.

Changes in NetSuite get flagged
The CFO catches what used to slip through
In their words
“I found inconsistencies from how I was doing things before, and now this forces a level of consistency. And frankly it better highlights when I find things that we have gone back and changed in NetSuite in closed periods. All of a sudden, wait a minute, this looks different than how I reported last month. So it helps me catch things that we shouldn't have done.”

Before and after
| Before | After |
|---|---|
| The CFO built all the financial reporting in Excel by hand. | All financial reporting runs through Vena. |
| Trailing 12 months, year-to-date and the other aggregate columns didn't always match from report to report. | Vena forces the same logic every time, so the columns stay consistent. |
| If someone changed a closed period in NetSuite, nobody noticed until the numbers looked off. | It shows up right away: "this looks different than how I reported last month." |
| Reporting took a big share of the CFO's time. | He spends less time on reporting. |
| The team member who built the model left right as they went live. | MCC walked Jim through the parts he hadn't been close to, and offered free coaching hours for the next hire. |
What we built
- Guided a client-led build. Essex Finishing's own team did most of the build, with MCC guiding.
- Moved monthly financial reporting into Vena, live since March 2026.
- Supported the handover. When the builder left at go-live, MCC helped Jim understand the parts she had owned.
- Supported the reforecast when Jim asked for guidance.
The worry this answers
Will we depend on MCC forever? Essex's own team did most of the build. When their builder left at go-live, MCC walked the CFO through the parts he hadn't been close to, and offered free coaching hours for the next hire.
Reporting still built by hand in Excel? See whether this fits.
“Definitely it's been a huge help. Those are the two biggest factors, consistency, and it has been a time save.”

Three entities, two ERPs, and the hardest line in the consolidation finally shows its math, after moving from Planful to Vena.
“I think Vena is much more flexible for our needs and more robust than Planful was. All we did with Planful was upload trial balances. So the fact that Vena has all of our general ledger detail right there is extremely helpful.”

A project expected to be complicated turned out smooth
“The project that we thought was going to be really complicated turned out to be a very smooth project, and I’m very happy with the results. We were able not just to bring the data we needed for seamless reporting, but also to upgrade and improve our capabilities. The greatest part was the communication and flexibility - having open communication and feeling comfortable asking questions was definitely the key to the success of everything.”

The month-end close broken down, with the real bottlenecks found
“Charlie and the MCC team helped us break down our month-end close process and quickly identify the real bottlenecks. Even though the solution was upstream of their tooling, the conversation gave us clear next steps to improve the workflow.”
